It’s a fascinating and highly beneficial art. Unfortunately good training on bagua is hard to find and classes are few and far between.

I have created a series of five videos for this bagua online course on pretty much all the elements that I covered during the workshop that you can have for less than half the cost of that workshop. These videos are:

Video 1 – Walking the circle. Circle walking is the essence of baguazhang. It develops balance and stability and a moving root so that you don’t lose your power even while moving. You gain all round awareness, absolute sure-footedness and you can go on as long a walk as you like without leaving your front door! It also develops your internal energy and you feel your whole body buzzing with it afterwards.

Video 2 – Fan Chang. Bagua involves much circling, twisting and spirally throughout the body. It’s what made it such a powerful and sought after martial art. Fan Chang is a critical component of this. It’s a set of three exercises that teach you to develop internal twisting power from your feet to your hands. Fan Chang power is used all the time in baguazhang.

Video 3 – Changing Direction. Much of the magic of baguazhang happens while you are changing direction. This video shows some simple ways of changing direction using the Fan Chang movement including some that are rarely seen in other baguazhang styles. It’s important when changing direction not to lose your balance, your root or your power. This video will train you how.

Video 4 – Gaining Power. Generally speaking the more we move the less rooted we are and therefore the less power we have. There are no fixed stances in baguazhang, the practitioner is constantly moving, circling, twisting etc. So they have developed other ways to maintain power while moving. They have done this by reversing the movement/stillness dynamic of tai chi. Watch the video to find out how.

Video 5 – The Single Palm Change. This is commonly referred to as the ‘signature move’ of baguazhang. It’s a change of direction involving contraction and expansion, twisting and coiling. Learn it well and practice it regularly. It’s the gateway to more advanced palm changes that I’ll introduce in a future series of videos.

These five videos are now on sale at just £42 (shortly to go up to £59). There is nothing more priceless than knowledge and this series will teach you skills that can continue to develop you for the rest of your life.

  • Work on your posture and breathing while you walk
  • Walk freely with more balance and less tension
  • Become more aware of yourself and your surroundings
  • Make every walk a richer and more enjoyable experience
