Your first lesson - starting the right way

We aim to make learning Jade Dragon kung fu a fairly pain free process. New beginners are always made to feel very welcome. The teacher takes the time to go thorough some of the basic principles and movements with them personally to help them integrate into the group quickly and smoothly.

We follow the traditional, confucian ethos of a family atmosphere within the group where the emphasis is on mutual support rather than a culture of aggression and ego-bashing. When doing partner work you swap partners regularly as eveyryone will respond differently to each technique you learn so you need to be able to adapt to how each person moves. This changing around also prevents cliques forming within the group.

There is generally no need to book a session, you can just turn up. When you do, wear some comfortable clothes including footwear (no bare feet here) and it's a good idea to bring a water bottle. It would help if you could bring along a completed student membership form which can be downloaded by clicking here.

Enjoy your first lesson, you may feel overwhelmed by the amount of information you are given but I'm sure you will also be impressed by how effective the skills shown are. There is no rush to learn although I tend to give too much information in each session rather than not enough. Remember though, you will have barely scratched the surface and what you have been shown is but a single drop in a large ocean of knowledge. All of it will be available to you if you stick to the lessons with dedication and enthusiasm.
